| MHA Events 2006 |
|
In 2006 MHA organised a wide variety of events to cater for the demands of our wide spectrum of members. Looking back at the last year events and activities organised by MHA :
Bhajans - Bhajans have been a precedent for all new MHA committees, we were pleased to continue the tradition. After some memorable Bhajans, Kiritbhai Thakrar (Vice chairperson) initiated a series of pledges and donations for the famine relief in Malawi and in minutes raised pledges for over £2500. AGM - the annual event was held in Wembley, completing the formalities for the previous year. The AGM also provided a valuable forum to meet and discuss the new ideas and challenges for our community. Indoor Cricket Tournament - a great fun day out for all those who participated, young, old, ladies and gents an event everyone truly enjoyed. We had 9 teams from across London, over 100 people attended. Famine Relief - a truly touching and live changing experience for committee member Nilay Ganatra who went to go to the famine hit regions of Malawi and personally handed out food and medical supplies to those who desperately need it on behalf of MHA UK. Once again gratitude must go to the generous donors who helped. Cookery Demonstration - approximately 30 Ladies participate in the demonstrations but the lucky ones were the families that attended after all the food had to be eaten. Cycling - this event was not just cycling in the beautiful countryside of The New Forest, but it was a family day out, a picnic, a stroll in woods and a beautiful day out in the country. Football Tournament - 9 teams playing for the silver ware, with friends and family over 100 people attended the event. We have had many requests for a repeat event. Navratri - the most successful and well attended Navratri event in the history of the MHA. Full House on Saturday Night, and a good attendance on Friday. The feedback and comments from members who attended Navratri was very encouraging to all committee members. The extra effort and hard work from our Social Secretary Chetan Kotecha paid of in full. Birthday Celebrations - as far as we are aware the first Indian from Malawi in the UK to reach 100 is Mohanlalbhai Pathak, and as a gesture of recognition and goodwill, MHA organised a little get together to celebrate at the Hare Krishna Mandir in Watford where lunch, refreshments and off course a Birthday Cake was provided. Congratulations to Mohanlalbhai Pathak on his good health, and reaching the grand old age of 100. |
