Mohanlal Pathak-100 Years Old |
|
Mohanlal Pathak (Bapuji) - the first Indian from Malawi (as far as we are aware) reached a grand age of 100 years. To celebrate this great occasion, on 1st Jan 2007, the MHA committee members arranged a small gathering at the Hare Krishna Temple in Watford.
Even though this gathering was organised at very short notice the turnout was overwhelming with about 70 people attending. The day went extremely well with most of Bapuji's close family spanning 4 generations as well as some close friends attending to make this a really special day to remember. Events of the day were as follows: - Arjunbhai (Hare Krishna Devotee) started the ceremony with some prayers.
- Kiritbhai Thakrar (Vice Chairperson, MHA) then said some kind words about Bapuji including charting a brief history about his life and family history. [Link to Kiritbhais kind words]
- Chetan Kotecha (Social Secretary, MHA) presented a shawl to Bapuji
- Bhagwanji Uncle then presented a Best Wishes book signed by everyone present
- Finally a cake was cut to complete the celebrations
Bapuji was completely amazed at how this event was put together so quickly and the number of people that turned up to give him their best wishes. We would like to thank Bhagwanji Uncle for making us aware about Bapuji and suggesting the idea of a gathering. Our special thanks also goes to the Hare Krishna Temple for allowing us to host this event and organising a large capacity area within the mandir. More photos are available in the gallery |
