Unfortunately, our homeland has been hit by a devastating natural disaster, famine and drought in Malawi is so severe that people are suffering and dying daily. Some quotes to share and consider:
From Unicef: Approximately, 4.2 million or 34 per cent of the population will not be able to meet their minimum food requirements from now until the next harvest in March 2006. From Malawi Association for Christian Support: Once again, Malawi faces a famine, which this year threatens to be worse than ever. The rains were insufficient and it is estimated that there will be a 15% shortfall in the supply of maize this year. The southern part of Malawi is worst affected and this is where the majority of the population live. It is thought that upto 5 million people will need food aid; nearly half the population. The above is scary reading, but a fact in our HOMELAND. MHA is looking at various projects and events to raise funds for the famine. We will keep you informed, and hope for your SUPPORT.
